The centre of the district is Elabuga. Area - 1350,3 square km. Population - 79,4 thousand people. The district was founded in 1930. Elabuga is situated in the north-west of the republic, on the right bank of the river Kama, 215 km from Kazan, 14 km to the south-west from the railway station Tikhonovo.
