The centre of the district is Mendeleevsk. Area – 746,4 square km. Population – 30,5 thousand people. The district was founded in 1985.

The city of Mendeleevsk is situated on the bank of the river Toima (a tributary of the Kama river), 238 km to the east from Kazan, 70 km to the south from the Mozhga railway station, 4 km from the Tikhie Gory pier (on the Kama river). Population – 30,5 thousand people.
